Damaris’s experiences as an Afro-Brazilian immigrant based in Minneapolis, Minnesota—operating in the male-dominated field of architecture—have placed her squarely at one of America’s most dynamic intersections: where the issues surrounding immigration, women’s empowerment, and social justice often collide.
With a focus on community collaboration, Damaris works to ensure that the built environment reflects the needs and desires of those who most frequently occupy urban spaces. She served as chief architect in the effort to re-establish soundness in an area that was disrupted by property destruction in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.
